Unusual photographs by artist Lori Nix

Hi everyone!

Remember when I said I would try really hard to start blogging more regularly again?  Well..it didn't work!

I have been so busy with school, and now Meridyth has strep throat and a high fever.  However, even though my blogging has been lacking I had to show all of you these photographs that I came across.

I have StumbleUpon on my phone.  Do any of you use StumbleUpon?  I highly recommend it for its addictiveness and ability to constantly show you cool websites.

Anyway, I was not working at work (don't tell!) and came across this photographer Lori Nix.

I looked at one photograph, then another, then another, and soon found myself transported to a world of her creation and wanting to look at more.

She builds worlds out of paper, clay, and other materials and then photographs them so they look like they are a place that she came across in her travels that you or I could visit.

I am entranced.

This is what she says on her website:
"I am often asked questions about the inspiration for my work as well as my working process. As a ‘non-traditional’ photographer (I construct my subject matter rather than go find it) people find it hard to grasp what exactly it is that I do. And the fact that it is all done in front of the camera, with no digital manipulation, adds its own set of challenges. Building materials, lighting, issues of scale and space all become significant when you are recreating the world on a table top."

These are just a few select samples on her website which I suggest you check out.

I find it fascinating how she builds these worlds and then photographs them.  In my head I am thinking, wouldn't it be easier to paint the images in your head?  I think that is what is so amazing!  The detail she uses is painstaking and I can only imagine the endless hours that must go into to building some of these images.

I am in LOVE!  Did I mention the lighting?  I think Lori Nix may be my new favorite artist.

Lots of Love,

Jessica

Lovely Sunday Photograph

Hello, hello!

I hope everyone has had a great weekend.

Mine has been super busy and full and honestly I have overdone it a bit and I am paying for it now.  Just today we dropped of a bunch of stuff at goodwill, went for breakfast, attempted to go mattress shopping (utter fail) and went to target, bed bath and beyond, office depot, and staples.  I sat in the car for some of the shopping!

I then took a three hour nap and my dreams of more cleaning have dissipated.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend and is ready for the week!

Onto the photograph!  This image is by photographer Tim Flack who does amazing animal portraiture.  Click on his name to go to his website.  I can't get enough of his work!
Lots of Love,

Pins and Repins on Pinterest this week

Happy Thursday!
What a looong week!  I am hoping to having a some quality time with Mer this week, but if we don't my parents will be home soon and I'll be home with Mer and the cats.

I only had three Pins/Repins this week on Pinterest but they are some good ones!
Original source unknown
How cool is this?  As you might know I am obsessed with Italy and this would be really cool to do with a map from there.

Here are the directions:
1. Paint your nails white/cream
2. Soak nails in alcohol for five minutes
3. Press nails to map and hold
4. Paint with clear protectant immediately after it dries.
Original Source Unknown
This photograph is dreamy.  If anyone knows the original source I would love to give it credit.
Project found on LifeHacker
I think this is such a good use for old wine corks.  Check out the original project on the website LifeHacker.

Until tomorrow,

Love,

Lomography Love

Hello Lovelies!
I wanted to share with you today some cameras I am coveting and my love for....Lomography!

I went to college, was an art major, and concentrated in black and white traditional photography.  Sometimes I have dreams that I am still working in the darkroom and I wake up smelling the chemicals that I spent so much time smelling those four years in school.

I learned to use digital cameras when I starting assisting as a wedding photographer and eventually bought my own Canon 5D full frame which I adore.  Yet there is nothing like picking up my Diana camera, fully plastic, and sticking some film in it and shooting away.  I don't worry about framing or making it perfect because the surprise is when you get it developed.  Onto the cameras!

The Lomographic LC-A+ is a camera I have been drooling over for a long time, but at $280 I haven't bought it yet.

Description:  The Lomographic LC-A+ Compact Automat is a compact, robust, manual focus camera, with an exceptionally fast Minitar 1 32mm f/2.8 lens. The Minitar's wide-angle view works to fully capture your subject, ensuring great photos without depending on a viewfinder. Many unique effects are possible with this camera. Perfect for those spontaneous, creative shots.

Aren't these pictures dreamy?  The lens on this camera is supossed to be amazing!

Horizon Perfekt
This camera looks amazing!  At $449 it's pricey put looks very worth it!

Description: Clad in space-age ABS plastic, the Horizon Perfekt features full aperture and shutter settings so you have complete control over your exposure. Be blown away by its distinctive OF-28P swing lens that sweeps across the earth with full 120 degrees of vision - Each shot yields a 58mm long negative that extends to about two standard frames! Clockwork mechanics grant quiet operation of your Perfekt without the use of batteries. The Horizon Perfekt is the universe’s professional panoramic camera of choice.

I would love to buy one of these, especially when Mer and I decide to travel again.  I think the images would be amazing!

Here's the last camera for today!  There are so many on the list, but the post can only be so long!  All of the information and images I shared with you today are from the Lomography website.

This last camera is called The Spinner and is the cheapest of the three at $99.  I wish money didn't have an influence on buying things but it definitely does!

Description:  Go beyond the confines of standard panoramas with the Lomography Spinner 360°! Just hold the camera in one hand, pull the cord with the other and release it. In one split second, the camera spins 360 degrees on its own axis, capturing every detail around you on 35mm film - The result is a super-wide angle image, 4x longer than a standard landscape photo!

Isn't this camera really cool?  I love how it captures everything in the view around you.

That's it for today.  Happy Wednesday!

Love,

Jess

Oh what a day...and a new photographer to drool over

Hello, hello....

Oh What A Day....

I'm not even sure where to start.  You know when you feel like things just might be coming together?  Like the pieces are starting to fit into place and you can see a light at the end of the tunnel?

Then...maybe there's an earth quake and the tunnel collapses, or the light suddenly goes out, or you are missing that one piece that will complete the puzzle and your cat ate it.

That's how I feel today.  Like I just can't win.  Like there is a missing piece.  Like I am climbing an uphill battle but the hill is never ending.

I am trying not to slide back down...everyone has an opinion...my mother, my mother-in-law, my co-workers...I am trying the best I can...that's what I just said to my mother as I hung up the phone before I started to write this post in a haze of tiredness and teary eyes.

I am tired people, and just trying to hang onto whatever I can.  My top priorities are:
1.  Go to work for full day
2.  Help Meridyth find a job and be a supportive partner (biggest stress right now)
3.  Plan for wedding which is in one month!
4.  Figure out what I'm thinking in the midst of everyone else's opinions

I have so much more to say but I need to sort out my thoughts tonight and collapse on my pillows.

I do want to share an amazing new photographer that I am drooling over.

Her name is Elise Gow and man oh man is she AMAZING!

She is a photographer based out of Australia near Melbourne and her composition, lighting, and emotions captured are envy worthy.

Here are some of her images that I love:

Beautiful, right?  Check out more of Elise Gow's work here

Makes me wish I lived in Australia!

Something about eloping...

Hello my dear readers!  How is everyone doing on this gorgeous Thursday evening?

Yesterday I shared with you a ritual that I do every night before I go to sleep. Today I am going to share something else.

Elopements! I LOVE elopement photos. Meridyth and I are about two months away from our wedding, yikes!  Occasionally, I dream about running off to D.C. just the two of us and tying the knot.  I know in my heart that is not for me, or for us, but that doesn't mean that I don't often type elopement photos into google to look at the eye candy.

Something about the look in the couples eyes at these very intimate events makes me swoon.

Here are a few of my favorites.  Make sure to click on the links for the photographers too.  They are ALL awesome!

The Why We Love Photography

I love all of these photos because to me they seem to intimate and romantic.  Two people getting married because they love each other.  Less stress, no drama, sweet....

Love,

Jess
